ElevatHER – Overcoming the Gender Power Gap

Empowering Women to Lead

Overview of the project

The cooperation results in a multilingual learning platform that provides information and practical knowledge to enable women to take up leadership roles across society, available free of charge and usable at each learner's own pace. The project also develops an app offering a self-guided journey that builds self-efficacy step by step, with reflection exercises, short learning units and progress tracking, so that support does not stop when a workshop ends. Around these tools a network of Women Power Circles remains active in the partner countries, giving participants a place to keep learning together. A project website documents all activities and dissemination events, ensuring broad outreach, transparency and sustained impact beyond the funding period.

The cooperation brings together NGOs and companies from five countries to develop and discuss the project content, to test didactic materials and tools during workshops that include the learners themselves, and to disseminate the outcomes widely. In addition, each partner organises monthly Women Power Circle meetings in their local context, an open format where the needs, ideas and questions of both trainers and learners set the agenda and where experiences are exchanged between women who would otherwise never meet. Content is developed iteratively: drafted by the partners, tested with users, revised on the basis of what actually works in practice. Regular internal and external evaluations ensure a high quality of the process, the products and the impact.

The aim of the project

The project aims to empower women to assume leadership roles across sectors, and to make that path concrete rather than aspirational. It strives to enhance gender justice by providing tools for self-guidance, motivation and a comprehensive understanding of societal transformations, so that participants can position themselves in a changing labour market and public sphere. It works on practical competencies: communication, negotiation, visibility, decision making and the confidence to claim a seat at the table. It also addresses the structural side of the gap, helping organisations recognise the mechanisms that keep women out of decision making. Finally, the initiative promotes inclusion through democratic learning and active participation, with materials designed to be accessible to women from different educational and cultural backgrounds.

Our Role

ElevatHER is an Erasmus+ project addressing gender justice in European societies, and in particular the gap between the number of women in organisations and the number of women who actually decide. The project supports women in attaining leadership positions at work, in civil society and in politics by providing self-guidance, motivation and the knowledge required to navigate current transformations, from digitalisation to the green transition. Rather than treating leadership as a personality trait reserved for a few, ElevatHER approaches it as a set of learnable skills: reading power structures, negotiating, speaking in public, building alliances and dealing with the self-doubt that formal training rarely mentions. Through democratic learning and active participation, the project fosters inclusion and a just transition towards sustainability.
